About
Upon graduating college in May 2010, with a degree in Fashion Design and Merchandising from Marist College in New York, I started my self named fashion label Kimberly Noland Designs. I started the line because I knew it was exactly what I needed to do to fulfill my passion for fashion. The line started as 9 pieces for holiday 2010. I knew a local boutique owner and I explained my idea for my collection and she was immediatly on board and happy to support me. I went to Atlanta to buy all my fabric for these first pieces and immediately began sewing. The first 9 went on sale in Novemember, and through the successful sales of those pieces I began designing a larger collection for spring.
Before I design each collection I always look at the runway shows to see what is on trend. I also refer back to the style of historic women such a Audrey Hepburn, Jackie O, Twiggy etc.. What I design is also influenced by my town Huntsville, AL because I like to look at what people are actually wearing, what events are happening, where women are going… It may look fantastic on a runway to see a neon blue leather cocktail dress encrusted with beading, but is this practical, is my customer going to event think twice about something like that? I keep real women in mind when designing and their fashion wants and needs.
I start with a series of sketches and I source fabrics for each style. I will then edit the collection and do costing on each item. I like to design pieces that are classic so you can wear them again and again and update them with new accessories. I also like my designs to have a very feminine influence so when you put something on you immediately feel pretty no matter what mood you are in prior. For my newest summer collection I’m also incorporating some cotton jersey sherbert color dresses, in modern simple shapes. This is a little bit of a departure from what I normally do, but it has a great mod Twiggy influence.
